Hi Midfolk!

I hope you are all doing well, and looking forward to a great weekend! Let me help a little.

I have taken the 'Duke of The Western Midderlands' pledge off the pledges/rewards list. Instead, I have decided to offer it as a competition prize.

Win 'The Midderlands Expanded' Filler Art book

What is it, and how do I enter?

http://monkeyblooddesign.co.uk/Competition

To be in with a chance to win, all you need to do is pledge to the project (which you might have already done) or share/post on social media about it (ideally both). Each will give you a chance to win as follows.

  • +1 for being an original Kickstarter backer on the first campaign.
  • +1 for being a 'The Midderlands Expanded' backer on successful completion of the campaign.
  • +1 extra for also being an original Kickstarter backer on the first campaign.
  • Lots of +1 chances for sharing or posting on Twitter, Google+, Facebook, Blogs and Forums.

A qualifying 'share' or 'post' must contain ALL THREE of the following as a minimum:

Commercial Use Art, Filler Art Book latest, Moar Art, and Barrowburn Keep
about 6 years ago – Tue, Feb 06, 2018 at 09:38:13 PM

Hello Midderlanders,

We have been beavering away here in The Midderlands, and bring you another glorious update.

Commercial Use Art

This is a great opportunity for small/indie publishers to get their hands on some of my art to use in their own products.

All existing and pledges going forward for the following two (2) pledge levels:

  • Leechfield Lord (£70)
  • Duke of The Western Midderlands (£750)

will have access to 600dpi mono scans of the cartography and artwork created in the Filler Art book. The artwork is that provided by Glynn Seal only, and only those pieces created in the filler art book. No art from other artists involved in the project will be available.

The great news is that this license will be a commercial use license. It will be non-exclusive, time unlimited, and require attribution. I will retain the copyright. At the conclusion of the Kickstarter campaign in the survey stage I will ask backers at the relevant pledge levels to provide the legal name for the license - this is optional of course.

Filler Art - Flipthrough Update

With the above said, want to see how far we are and what's currently in the filler art book? This is the latest video flipthrough showing the current pieces inside:

Barrowburn Keep

The Great Wall of Hadreen near Barrowburn Keep
The Great Wall of Hadreen near Barrowburn Keep

[The following is unedited]

"Also known as the ‘Keep on the Borderlands’, Barrowburn Keep is not as extensive as the other castles of the wall such as Middercastle and Northcastle. Built in white gneiss, Barrowburn strikes an imposing figure on the rise named as The Great Barrow. Although not an actual barrow, the folk of Scrotland have called it that for thousands of years. It is also where the Gomans burned hundreds of defeated Scrotlanders after the Battle of Great Barrow. Nowadays, the Scrotlanders take their dead and bury them near the foot of the keep in defiance of the oppression felt by them and their kin. They do this for two reasons; Firstly, they hope that one day they will have the capability to raise their kin from their death slumber to defeat any invasion by Havenlanders, and secondly, whilst also burying their dead, they take out more earth than is needed and over time have built a large honeycomb of passages, chambers and secret hideouts beneath the castle and well into Havenland, as far south as the Kelderwater. In the cover of darkness, small raiding parties emerge in the safe confines of Kelderburn Forest and plunder parts of Northumbershire. The barrows generally do not contain any of their actual ancestors, who are buried far away so that they may be left in peace. Instead the barrows are filled with murderers and vagabonds, whose bodies are unworthy of a dignified burial.

The keep is managed by Captain Truss Mangewort, and he does a shit job. His command is as slovenly as his appearance, and his men are undisciplined and lazy. A very portly man, he was once a distinguished warrior, but fell into self-loathing and misery after his family were murdered by brigands on the road to Great Lunden. Unable to defeat them at the time and save his kin, he plotted revenge by finding every single one of the killers, and butchered them, placing their heads on his family grave. The authorities struggled with how to tackle the brutality of Mangewort’s offences and instead decided to banish him miles away to manage the defences of Barrowburn. He is often found drunk in the keep’s great hall, he snores away in front of the large fireplace with bits of food stuck in the folds of his chins. The castellans of Middercastle and Northcastle know of Mangewort’s distinguished service history and cover up his shortcomings from the authorities further south.

The excavating beneath the castle has already exposed a few passages into the Middergloom, and the Scrotlanders know that an emergence of creatures from below would risk discovery of the tunnels and passages so they keep a close on what happens below."

That's all for now, and as always, please help spread the word.

Onwards to victory!

The First 24 Hours
about 6 years ago – Sun, Jan 28, 2018 at 11:47:07 AM

Hello Midderfolk,

As we near the first 24 hour mark, we are approaching 30% funded, and 99 backers as I write this! That is absolutely fantastic! Thank you all so much for your support.

It's really heart-warming and encouraging to see returning backers that supported the first campaign, as well as new names joining The Midderlands fold. Welcome to you, and I hope you enjoy the ride.

I will be posting updates as regularly as I feel is appropriate during the campaign to show you new pieces of art and writing as it emerges.

As with all of these things, they only get to fund because of the generosity and word-of-mouth by you, the backers!

Feel free to share the project in forum threads, blog posts, social media posts and anywhere you think might be relevant and have an interest. The more people know about the project, the more chance of a successful outcome. Help to spread this viridian-hued menace like a ratdog flu pandemic #themidderlands.

Thank you all so much for joining me for more adventure in Havenland.

Glynn and The Midderlands Expanded team.

p.s. Beware the rising danger from across the water...
